Engineering promotion association accelerating the development of 2 mega watts class ocean current power generator Substantiative experiment will be conducted after 2011

Engineering promotion association has started a new project of the development for the world largest ocean current power generation system. They will have completed a basic design and revision work of the new power generating systems by the end of 2009, and they will start a substantiative experiment after 2011. It is said that there are enormous amount of ocean current power which can be used for supplying the electricity. The total amount of the energy which generated by 2MW systems in a year will be 7,600,000kWh, this amount will cover the consumption of the electricity for 21,000 houses. It means 4,218t-CO2 can be saved. Ocean current power generating systems emits zero COs in its operation. The association established eMegawatts class ocean current power generation systems committeef organized by several researchers. They has started a basic design of the generator which has a diameter of 33 meters for the turbine, 50 meters for the over all device. They employed Loopwing shaped turbine on its turbine. This new technology enables the turbine to enlarge the size of the generator and lighten the weight of the over all device. Substantiative experiments to verify the effectiveness of the technology with 1/50 scale device has been succeeded to generate 400KW. A model of the generator will be exhibit at eInternational new energy expof in Makuhari Messe in Chiba prefecture.
